Worship

Congregational worship is the time our church family and guests gather together to remember and embrace the story of God’s love and our call to live out God’s love in the world. First Baptist Church, Newport News hosts three expressions of congregational worship every Sunday morning.

8:30 a.m. Traditional Service

This service features hymns of the faith, stately organ chords, choral anthems and congregational singing which make us more sensitive to the presence of God and the message of scripture proclaimed during the sermon.

11:00 a.m. Contemporary Service

Guitar riffs, drums, lively music and a laid back congregation lead to a relaxed worship environment where persons not used to church or who appreciate a non-traditional worship experience can find a safe place to encounter God. The message aims to connect Biblical truths to real life in a thoughtful and engaging way.

12:30 p.m. Spanish-Language Service

This service is conducted entirely in Spanish. Worship combines drums, guitars and singers leading to a powerful experience of musical worship. Sermons are focused applying the Word of God to the real life issues of hispanic individuals and families who call the Peninsula home.

All three worship services take place in our sanctuary. Children of all ages are welcome in all of our worship services, although we do have nursery care available for the 8:30 and 11:00 services if you prefer. Children’s Worship bags are available upon request for check-out during each service.
