Music Ministry
Music is a vital part of church life. Our primary purpose is to draw people to God through weekly worship experiences and special musical events throughout the year. We also provide musical training and leadership experiences for everyone, from preschoolers to senior adults.
Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir is a non-auditioned group of adults of all ages who rehearse weekly on Wednesdays from 7:30 – 8:45 pm. This choir leads in worship in our 8:30 a.m. service. In addition, the Sanctuary Choir participates in special Christmas programs and the annual FBC Festival of Music each Spring.
Transformed Praise Band
The band also provides special music in worship and sometimes provides accompaniment for soloists and other choir anthems. They participate in the annual FBC Festival of Music each Spring, as well as provide music for the Newport News One City Marathon.

Swingin' Singers
The Swingin’ Singers is open to all those who have reached at least 55 years of age, whether or not they attend First Baptist Church. The group meets every Friday (except the 3rd Friday) at 10:00 a.m. for refreshments and rehearsal. This group’s greatest ministry is singing in nursing homes, senior adult centers, and convalescent centers throughout Hampton Roads. The Swingin’ Singers also enjoys day trips and extended trips to places like the Amish Country, state historical sites, and seminars. This group never misses an opportunity to have a fun or holiday party.
Preschool Music
Preschool Music is open to 3-year-olds through Kindergarten and they meet on Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. (September-May). Learning to sing, love music, work together, and praise the Lord through song are the focus for this ministry.
Children's Choir
The Children’s Choir is for all children in grades 1 through 5 and meets each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (September-May) to learn music and sing praises to God. Our children sing in our worship services several times a year and also participate in special services highlighting our music ministry.
